No. 2125 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 11, 2001; 1-3 May 11, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Education; May 11, 2001, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 7, Nays 0; May 11, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to public school admission of military personnel and 1-9 dependents under reciprocity agreements between states. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 25, Education Code, is 1-12 amended by adding Section 25.005 to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 25.005. RECIPROCITY AGREEMENTS REGARDING MILITARY 1-14 PERSONNEL AND DEPENDENTS. (a) To facilitate the transfer of 1-15 military personnel and their dependents to and from the public 1-16 schools of this state, the agency may pursue reciprocity agreements 1-17 with other states governing the terms of those transfers. 1-18 (b) A reciprocity agreement must: 1-19 (1) address procedures for transferring student 1-20 records; 1-21 (2) address procedures for awarding credit for 1-22 completed course work; and 1-23 (3) include appropriate criteria developed by the 1-24 agency. 1-25 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 1-26 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 1-27 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this 1-28 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 1-29 Act takes effect September 1, 2001. 1-30 * * * * *
