A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to contributions for the governor for a day or speaker's
1-3 reunion day ceremony.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 303.003(c), Government Code, is amended to
1-6 read as follows:
1-7 (c) Contributions from a contributor to the speaker's
1-8 reunion day ceremony may not exceed an aggregate of $500 [$100]
1-9 cash or an aggregate value of more than $500 [$100].
1-10 SECTION 2. Section 303.005, Government Code, is amended by
1-11 amending Subsections (c) and (d) and adding Subsection (e) to read
1-12 as follows:
1-13 (c) If each obligation has been paid at the end of the
1-14 60-day period and there is an outstanding balance, the chairman
1-15 shall:
1-16 (1) distribute the balance to one or more charities
1-17 designated by the president pro tempore or speaker; or
1-18 (2) retain the balance in an account established for
1-19 that purpose in the name of the office of the president pro tempore
1-20 or speaker, as appropriate.
1-21 (d) If the outstanding balance is retained under Subsection
1-22 (c)(2), the account balance shall be combined with contributions
1-23 received for the succeeding governor for a day or speaker's reunion
1-24 day ceremony, as appropriate, and may be spent only for the
2-1 purposes provided by Section 303.004.
2-2 (e) The reports required by this chapter are public
2-3 information.
2-4 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2-5 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2-6 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2-7 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2-8 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
