                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to contributions for the governor for a day or speaker's
 1-3     reunion day ceremony.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 303.003(c), Government Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           (c)  Contributions from a contributor to the speaker's
 1-8     reunion day ceremony may not exceed an aggregate of $500 [$100]
 1-9     cash or an aggregate value of more than $500 [$100].
1-10           SECTION 2. Section 303.005(c), Government Code, is amended to
1-11     read as follows:
1-12           (c)  If each obligation has been paid at the end of the
1-13     60-day period and there is an outstanding balance, the chairman
1-14     shall retain [distribute] the balance in an account established for
1-15     that purpose in the name of the office of [to one or more charities
1-16     designated by] the president pro tempore or speaker, as
1-17     appropriate.  The account balance shall be combined with
1-18     contributions received for the succeeding governor for a day or
1-19     speaker's reunion day ceremony, as appropriate, and may be spent
1-20     only for the purposes provided by Section 303.004.
1-21           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-22     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-23     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-24     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 2-1     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
