1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to contributions for the governor for a day or speaker's
1-9 reunion day ceremony.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 303.003(c), Government Code, is amended to
1-12 read as follows:
1-13 (c) Contributions from a contributor to the speaker's
1-14 reunion day ceremony may not exceed an aggregate of $500 [$100]
1-15 cash or an aggregate value of more than $500 [$100].
1-16 SECTION 2. Section 303.005, Government Code, is amended by
1-17 amending Subsections (c) and (d) and adding Subsection (e) to read
1-18 as follows:
1-19 (c) If each obligation has been paid at the end of the
1-20 60-day period and there is an outstanding balance, the chairman
1-21 shall:
1-22 (1) distribute the balance to one or more charities
1-23 designated by the president pro tempore or speaker; or
1-24 (2) retain the balance in an account established for
1-25 that purpose in the name of the office of the president pro tempore
1-26 or speaker, as appropriate.
1-27 (d) If the outstanding balance is retained under Subsection
1-28 (c)(2), the account balance shall be combined with contributions
1-29 received for the succeeding governor for a day or speaker's reunion
1-30 day ceremony, as appropriate, and may be spent only for the
1-31 purposes provided by Section 303.004.
1-32 (e) The reports required by this chapter are public
1-33 information.
1-34 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-35 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-36 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
1-37 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-38 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
