                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the issuance of a certificate of title for certain farm
 1-3     semitrailers.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 501, Transportation Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 501.036 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 501.036.  CERTIFICATE OF TITLE FOR FARM SEMITRAILER. (a)
 1-8     Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the department
 1-9     may issue a certificate of title for a farm semitrailer with a
1-10     gross weight of more than 4,000 pounds if:
1-11                 (1)  the farm semitrailer is eligible for registration
1-12     under Section 502.276; and
1-13                 (2)  all other requirements for issuance of a
1-14     certificate of title are met.
1-15           (b)  To obtain a certificate of title under this section, the
1-16     owner of the farm semitrailer must:
1-17                 (1)  apply for the certificate of title in the manner
1-18     required by Section 501.023; and
1-19                 (2)  pay the fee required by Section 501.138.
1-20           (c)  The department shall adopt rules and forms to implement
1-21     and administer this section.
1-22           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
