                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to accommodations and work assignments for certain
 1-3     pregnant municipal and county employees.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Section 180.004 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 180.004.  WORKING CONDITIONS FOR PREGNANT EMPLOYEES.
 1-8     (a)  A municipality or a county shall make a reasonable effort to
 1-9     accommodate an employee of the municipality or county determined by
1-10     a physician to be partially physically restricted by a pregnancy.
1-11           (b)  If the physician of a municipal or county employee
1-12     certifies that the employee is unable to perform the duties of the
1-13     employee's permanent work assignment and a temporary work
1-14     assignment that the employee may perform is available, the
1-15     municipality or county shall assign the employee to the temporary
1-16     work assignment.
1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
