                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the enforcement of municipal health and safety
 1-3     ordinances in a municipal court.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 30.00005, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
 1-7           (d)  In a municipality with a population of 1.6 million or
 1-8     more, the governing body may by ordinance provide that the court
 1-9     has civil jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing municipal
1-10     ordinances enacted in accordance with Subchapter A of Chapter 214
1-11     of the Local Government Code and Subchapter E of Chapter 683 of the
1-12     Transportation Code.  The court shall have concurrent jurisdiction
1-13     with the district court within the boundaries of the jurisdiction
1-14     for the purpose of enforcing health and safety and nuisance
1-15     abatement ordinances.  The court shall have authority to issue
1-16     search warrants for the purpose of investigating a violation and
1-17     seizure warrants for the purpose of securing, removing or
1-18     demolishing the offending property and removing the debris from the
1-19     premises.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
