                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to court fee on dismissal of a charge in connection with
 1-3     motor vehicle financial responsibility.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 601.193, Transportation Code, is amended
 1-6     by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsections (c) and (d)  to
 1-7     read as follows:
 1-8           (b)  After the court verifies a document produced under
 1-9     Subsection (a)  and the person charged pays a fee in an amount
1-10     determined under Subsection (c), the court shall dismiss the
1-11     charge.
1-12           (c)  The amount of the fee under Subsection (b) is:
1-13                 (1)  $10 if the court did not issue a warrant in
1-14     connection with the offense; or
1-15                 (2)  $25 if the court issued a warrant in connection
1-16     with the offense.
1-17           (d)  The clerk of the court shall collect the fee under this
1-18     section and pay it to the county or municipal treasurer, as
1-19     appropriate, or to any other official who discharges the duties
1-20     commonly delegated to the county or municipal treasurer, as
1-21     appropriate.
1-22           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-23     applies only to a charge dismissed on or after the effective date
1-24     of this Act.
