                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to a fee for preserving vital statistics records.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Section 191.0045, Health and Safety Code, is
 1-5     amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (h) to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           (d)  A local registrar who issues a certified copy of a birth
 1-8     or death certificate shall charge the same fees as charged by the
 1-9     bureau of vital statistics, including the additional fee required
1-10     under Subsection (e), except as provided by Subsections
1-11     [Subsection] (g) and (h).
1-12           (h)  In addition to other fees collected under this section,
1-13     a local registrar may collect a fee not to exceed $1 for the
1-14     preservation of vital statistics records maintained by the
1-15     registrar, including birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce,
1-16     and annulment records.  A fee under this section shall be collected
1-17     by the registrar on the issuance of a vital statistics record.
1-18           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
