1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the service areas of certain junior college districts.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 130.166, Education Code, is amended to
1-5 read as follows:
1-6 Sec. 130.166. AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE
1-7 AREA. The service area of the Austin Community College District
1-8 includes the territory within:
1-9 (1) [Travis,] Bastrop, Hays, Gillespie, Caldwell, and
1-10 Blanco counties;
1-11 (2) Travis County, except the territory within the
1-12 Marble Falls Independent School District[, located in Burnet
1-13 County]; and
1-14 (3) Williamson County, except the territory within the
1-15 Florence, Granger, Hutto, Taylor, and Thrall independent school
1-16 districts.
1-17 SECTION 2. Section 130.171, Education Code, is amended to
1-18 read as follows:
1-19 Sec. 130.171. CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE AREA.
1-20 The service area of the Central Texas College District includes the
1-21 territory within:
1-22 (1) the Killeen Independent School District, located
1-23 in Bell County;
1-24 (2) the Copperas Cove Independent School District,
2-1 located in Coryell County;
2-2 (3) Fort Hood and North Fort Hood, located in Bell
2-3 County;
2-4 (4) Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Mills,
2-5 and San Saba counties;
2-6 (5) the Brady, Lohn, and Rochelle independent school
2-7 districts located in McCullough County;
2-8 (6) the Burnet Consolidated Independent School
2-9 District located in Burnet County;
2-10 (7) the Florence Independent School District;
2-11 (8) the part of the Lampasas Independent School
2-12 District that is located in Burnet County;
2-13 (9) the part of the Lampasas Independent School
2-14 District that is located in Bell County; [and]
2-15 (10) the part of the Copperas Cove Independent School
2-16 District that is located in Bell County; and
2-17 (11) the Marble Falls Independent School District.
2-18 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies
2-19 beginning with the 2001 fall semester, except that during the
2-20 2001-2002 academic year a junior college district whose service
2-21 area is changed by this Act may continue to treat an area removed
2-22 by this Act from the district's service area as if the area were
2-23 still in the district's service area as necessary to avoid an
2-24 unreasonable interruption of junior college services in the area.
2-25 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2-26 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2-27 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3-1 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3-2 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
