 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the service areas of certain junior college districts.
 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-10           SECTION 1. Section 130.166, Education Code, is amended to
1-11     read as follows:
1-12           Sec. 130.166.  AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE
1-13     AREA. The service area of the Austin Community College District
1-14     includes the territory within:
1-15                 (1)  [Travis,] Bastrop, Hays, Gillespie, Caldwell, and
1-16     Blanco counties;
1-17                 (2)  Travis County, except the territory within the
1-18     Marble Falls Independent School District[, located in Burnet
1-19     County]; and
1-20                 (3)  Williamson County, except the territory within the
1-21     Florence, Granger, Hutto, Taylor, and Thrall independent school
1-22     districts.
1-23           SECTION 2. Section 130.171, Education Code, is amended to
1-24     read as follows:
1-25           Sec. 130.171.  CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE DISTRICT SERVICE AREA.
1-26     The service area of the Central Texas College District includes the
1-27     territory within:
1-28                 (1)  the Killeen Independent School District, located
1-29     in Bell County;
1-30                 (2)  the Copperas Cove Independent School District,
1-31     located in Coryell County;
1-32                 (3)  Fort Hood and North Fort Hood, located in Bell
1-33     County;
1-34                 (4)  Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Mills,
1-35     and San Saba counties;
1-36                 (5)  the Brady, Lohn, and Rochelle independent school
1-37     districts located in McCullough County;
1-38                 (6)  the Burnet Consolidated Independent School
1-39     District located in Burnet County;
1-40                 (7)  the Florence Independent School District;
1-41                 (8)  the part of the Lampasas Independent School
1-42     District that is located in Burnet County;
1-43                 (9)  the part of the Lampasas Independent School
1-44     District that is located in Bell County;  [and]
1-45                 (10)  the part of the Copperas Cove Independent School
1-46     District that is located in Bell County; and
1-47                 (11)  the Marble Falls Independent School District.
1-48           SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies
1-49     beginning with the 2001 fall semester, except that during the
1-50     2001-2002 academic year a junior college district whose service
1-51     area is changed by this Act may continue to treat an area removed
1-52     by this Act from the district's service area as if the area were
1-53     still in the district's service area as necessary to avoid an
1-54     unreasonable interruption of junior college services in the area.
1-55           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-56     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-57     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-58     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-59     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
