1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to continuing education requirements for code enforcement
1-9 officers.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 4(a), Chapter 796, Acts of the 72nd
1-12 Legislature, Regular Session, 1991 (Article 4447bb, Vernon's Texas
1-13 Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
1-14 (a) The board by rule shall:
1-15 (1) adopt standards and education requirements
1-16 consistent with those established under Chapter 654, Government
1-17 Code [the Position Classification Act of 1961 (Article 6252-11,
1-18 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes)], for the registration in this state
1-19 of code enforcement officers and code enforcement officers in
1-20 training; [and]
1-21 (2) prescribe application forms for original and
1-22 renewal certificates of registration; and
1-23 (3) prescribe annual continuing education requirements
1-24 for code enforcement officers and code enforcement officers in
1-25 training that:
1-26 (A) establish the number of hours of continuing
1-27 education required for renewal of a certificate of registration;
1-28 (B) establish an approved curriculum, which must
1-29 include material regarding changes in applicable law; and
1-30 (C) provide that the approved curriculum may be
1-31 taught by suitable public agencies and by private entities approved
1-32 by the department.
1-33 SECTION 2. Section 7(a), Chapter 796, Acts of the 72nd
1-34 Legislature, Regular Session, 1991 (Article 4447bb, Vernon's Texas
1-35 Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
1-36 (a) A certificate of registration issued under this Act is
1-37 valid for one year and may be renewed annually on payment of the
1-38 required renewal fee and on completion of the annual continuing
1-39 education requirements prescribed by the board.
1-40 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies to the
1-41 renewal of a code enforcement officer certificate of registration
1-42 on or after September 1, 2002.
1-43 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
