By Danburg H.B. No. 2508 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the issuance of Texas Urban Forestry Council license 1-3 plates. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, is 1-6 amended by adding Section 502.2735 to read as follows: 1-7 Sec. 502.2735. TEXAS URBAN FORESTRY COUNCIL LICENSE PLATES. 1-8 (a) The department shall issue specially designed license plates 1-9 for passenger cars and light trucks. 1-10 (b) The department shall design the license plates in 1-11 consultation with the Texas Urban Forestry Council. 1-12 (c) The department shall issue license plates under this 1-13 section to a person who: 1-14 (1) applies to the county assessor-collector of the 1-15 county in which the person resides on a form provided by the 1-16 department; and 1-17 (2) pays an annual fee of $30, in addition to the fee 1-18 prescribed by Section 502.161 or 502.162, and, if personalized 1-19 prestige license plates are issued, in addition to the fee 1-20 prescribed by Section 502.251. 1-21 (d) Of each fee collected under this section, $5 may be used 1-22 to defray the cost of administering this section by the department. 1-23 The department shall deposit the remainder of each fee collected 1-24 under this section to the credit of the Texas Urban Forestry 2-1 Council account in the state treasury. Money in the account may be 2-2 used only by the Texas Forest Service to support the activities of 2-3 a designated statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose 2-4 primary purpose is sponsoring urban and community tree planting, 2-5 urban and community tree preservation, and urban and community tree 2-6 education programs. 2-7 (e) If the owner of a vehicle registered under this section 2-8 disposes of the vehicle during the registration year, the owner 2-9 shall return the special license plates to the department. 2-10 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
