                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the funding of highway projects in certain
 1-3     municipalities.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 201.708 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 201.708.  FUNDING OF HIGHWAY PROJECTS IN CERTAIN
 1-8     MUNICIPALITIES. (a)  The department shall set aside a minimum of
 1-9     five percent of all money appropriated to the department for
1-10     highway projects and shall allocate the money only for highway
1-11     projects in municipalities with a population of 50,000 or less.
1-12           (b)  Subsection (a) does not affect the eligibility of a
1-13     municipality with a population of 50,000 or less to apply for or
1-14     receive money otherwise available to the municipality for highway
1-15     projects.
1-16           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
