No. 2673 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 11, 2001; 1-3 May 11, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on Business 1-4 and Commerce; May 11, 2001, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 6, Nays 0; May 11, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the collection and assessment of certain information by 1-9 the Texas Workforce Commission. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 302, Labor Code, is amended 1-12 by adding Section 302.0045 to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 302.0045. QUALITY INITIATIVES BY COMMISSION. (a) The 1-14 commission shall collect state and local information relating to 1-15 the effectiveness of the use of four percent quality dollars by 1-16 local workforce development boards. The commission shall produce a 1-17 report that highlights promising practices in expanding quality 1-18 early education. 1-19 (b) In performing its duties under this section, the 1-20 commission shall report to the legislature and other interested 1-21 persons on local programs and services that show promise in 1-22 expanding access to quality early education. 1-23 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 1-24 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 1-25 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this 1-26 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 1-27 Act takes effect September 1, 2001. 1-28 * * * * *
