1-8 AN ACT
1-9 relating to the amount of compensation and allowances for county
1-10 auditors.
1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-12 SECTION 1. Section 152.032, Local Government Code, is
1-13 amended to read as follows:
1-14 Sec. 152.032. LIMITATIONS ON COUNTY AUDITOR'S COMPENSATION
1-15 AND ALLOWANCES. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), the
1-16 [The] amount of the compensation and allowances of a county auditor
1-17 may not exceed the amount of the compensation and allowances
1-18 received from all sources by the highest paid elected county
1-19 officer, other than a judge of a statutory county court, whose
1-20 salary and allowances are set by the commissioners court.
1-21 (b) This subsection applies only to a county that employs an
1-22 arena venue project manager hired as of March 7, 2001, and that has
1-23 a population of less than 1.4 million in which a municipality with
1-24 a population of more than one million is located. The amount of
1-25 the compensation and allowances of a county auditor in a county
1-26 subject to this subsection may not exceed the amount of the
1-27 compensation and allowances received from all sources by the county
1-28 budget officer. If the county hires a county budget officer at a
1-29 salary lower than the salary of the previous county budget officer,
1-30 the county auditor's salary may not be reduced on that basis.
1-31 (c) A county auditor who was in office on August 31, 1987,
1-32 is entitled to be paid an annual salary not less than the annual
1-33 salary the auditor was being paid on that date.
1-34 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
