 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to recordkeeping pertaining to incidents involving persons
 1-9     licensed to carry a handgun.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1. Section 411.047, Government Code, is amended to
1-12     read as follows:
1-13           Sec. 411.047.  REPORTING RELATED TO CONCEALED HANDGUN
1-14     INCIDENTS. (a)  The department may [shall] maintain statistics on
1-15     its website related to responses by law enforcement agencies to
1-16     incidents in which a person licensed to carry a handgun under
1-17     Subchapter H is convicted of an offense only if the offense is
1-18     prohibited under Subchapter H or under Title 5, Chapter 29, Chapter
1-19     46, or Section 30.02 [46.035], Penal Code.
1-20           (b)  Such statistics shall be drawn and reported annually
1-21     from the Department of Public Safety computerized criminal history
1-22     file on persons 21 years of age and older and shall be compared in
1-23     numerical and graphical format to all like offenses committed in
1-24     the state for the reporting period as a percentage of the total of
1-25     such reported offenses.
1-26           (c)  The department by rule shall adopt procedures for local
1-27     law enforcement to make reports to the department described by
1-28     Subsection (a).
1-29           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
