                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the requirement that the attorney general adopt a plan
 1-3     to permit local administration of crime victims' compensation.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 56, Code of Criminal
 1-6     Procedure, is amended by adding Article 56.331 to read as follows:
 1-7           Art. 56.331.  LOCAL ADMINISTRATION OF CRIME VICTIMS'
 1-8     COMPENSATION.  The attorney general shall adopt a plan under which
 1-9     a local governmental entity, including a regional planning
1-10     commission created under Chapter 391, Local Government Code, may
1-11     administer a crime victims' compensation program for each
1-12     municipality or county governed or represented by the entity.
1-13           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
