                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the practice of medicine without an annual registration
 1-3     receipt.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 156.008, Occupations Code, is amended as
 1-6     follows:
 1-7           Sec. 156.008.  PRACTICING MEDICINE WITHOUT ANNUAL
 1-8     REGISTRATION PROHIBITED. (a)  Practicing medicine without an annual
 1-9     registration receipt for the current year 30 days after the
1-10     expiration of the previous year as provided by this subchapter has
1-11     the same effect as, and is subject to all penalties of, practicing
1-12     medicine without a license.
1-13           (b)  In a prosecution for the unlawful practice of medicine,
1-14     the receipt showing payment of the annual registration fee required
1-15     by this chapter does not constitute evidence that the receipt
1-16     holder is lawfully entitled to practice medicine.
1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-18     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-19     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-20     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-21     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
