                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the disqualification of a judge in an action that arise
 1-3     under the Election Code.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Title 16, Election Code, is amended by adding
 1-6     Chapter 278 to read as follows:
 1-7           Chapter 278.  VENUE OF A DISTRICT JUDGE. (a)  A judge of a
 1-8     judicial district that includes any territory within the judicial
 1-9     district is disqualified to preside in an action that arises under
1-10     the Election Code.
1-11           SECTION 2.  This Act takes affect September 1, 2001, and
1-12     applies to all proceedings occurring on or after that date.
