1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the compensation of certain retired judges while
 1-3 assigned as visiting judges.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 74.061(c), Government Code, is amended to
 1-6 read as follows:
1-7 (c) The salary of a retired judge or justice while assigned
1-8 under this chapter shall be paid out of money appropriated from the
1-9 general revenue fund for that purpose in an amount equal to the
1-10 compensation received from state and county sources of the judge of
1-11 the court to which he is assigned. The salary of a retired judge
1-12 or justice while assigned shall be determined pro rata for the
1-13 period of time that the judge or justice actually sits as the
1-14 assigned judge. The salary of a retired statutory county court
1-15 judge assigned under this chapter to serve in a district court or
1-16 statutory county court shall be paid by the state in the same
1-17 manner as the salary of a retired district judge assigned under
1-18 this chapter to serve in a district court or statutory county court
1-19 is paid by the state.
1-20 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-21 applies only to the assignment of a retired judge made on or after
1-22 that date. An assignment made before the effective date of this
1-23 Act is governed by the law in effect at the time the assignment is
1-24 made, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
