                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the service area of the Vernon Regional Junior College
 1-3     District.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 130.207, Education Code, is amended to
 1-6     read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 130.207.  VERNON REGIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT
 1-8     SERVICE AREA. (a)  The service area of the Vernon Regional Junior
 1-9     College District includes the territory within Wilbarger, Archer,
1-10     Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Haskell, King, Knox,
1-11     Throckmorton, and Wichita counties.
1-12           (b)  Notwithstanding Subsection (a), Haskell County is not
1-13     included in the service area of the Vernon Regional Junior College
1-14     District.  This subsection expires September 1, 2005.
1-15           SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
1-16     beginning with the 2001 fall semester, except that during the
1-17     2001-2002 academic year a junior college district whose service
1-18     area is changed by this Act may continue to treat an area removed
1-19     by this Act from the district's service area as if the area were
1-20     still in the district's service area as necessary to avoid an
1-21     unreasonable interruption of junior college services in the area.
1-22           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-23     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-24     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 2-1     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 2-2     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
