                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the career and technology education programs of public
 1-3     schools.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 29.181, Education Code, is amended to read
 1-6     as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 29.181.  PUBLIC EDUCATION CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY
 1-8     EDUCATION GOALS. Each public school student shall master the basic
 1-9     skills and knowledge necessary for:
1-10                 (1)  managing the dual roles of family member and wage
1-11     earner; [and]
1-12                 (2)  gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill,
1-13     high-wage job or continuing the student's education at the
1-14     postsecondary level; and
1-15                 (3)  making informed career and job choices based on an
1-16     experience of the characteristics; descriptions of the operating
1-17     equipment, conditions and how persons do work today; establishing a
1-18     connection with the workplace to provide a sense of the workplace
1-19     and its environment; and expectations of the various workplaces.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This legislation takes effect August 27, 2001.
