A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the appointment of bailiffs by the judges of the
1-3 district courts and county courts at law in Angelina County.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 53.001, Government Code, is amended by
1-6 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (h) to read as
1-7 follows:
1-8 (a) The judges of the 22nd, 30th, 70th, 71st, 78th, 89th,
1-9 161st, and 341st district courts, [the judges of the district
1-10 courts having jurisdiction in Angelina County,] the judges of the
1-11 district courts having jurisdiction in Taylor County, the judges of
1-12 the county courts at law of Taylor County, and the judge of the
1-13 County Court of Harrison County shall each appoint a bailiff.
1-14 (h) The judges of the district courts having jurisdiction in
1-15 Angelina County and the judges of the county courts at law of
1-16 Angelina County shall each appoint a bailiff.
1-17 SECTION 2. Section 53.009, Government Code, is amended by
1-18 adding Subsection (l) to read as follows:
1-19 (l) Each bailiff appointed by a judge of a district court
1-20 having jurisdiction in Angelina County or a county court at law
1-21 judge in Angelina County is entitled to receive a salary set by the
1-22 commissioners court of that county in an amount that is not less
1-23 than the salary of a deputy sheriff regularly assigned to patrol
2-1 duty in the county.
2-2 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
