                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the right of a public employee to be represented in
 1-3     certain meetings with a supervisor.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Chapter 617, Government Code, is amended by adding
 1-6     Section 617.006 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 617.006. An employee of the state or of a political
 1-8     subdivision of the state has the right to be represented in any
 1-9     investigative meeting with a supervisor that may result in adverse
1-10     employment action, including but not limited to termination,
1-11     nonrenewal, suspension, demotion, or reprimand.  The employee may
1-12     select as his or her representative a labor organization that does
1-13     not claim the right to strike.
1-14           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
