1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to sanctions imposed on certain persons following
 1-3     modification of parole or release on mandatory supervision.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 508.283, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
 1-7           (d)  If a person's parole or mandatory supervision is
 1-8     modified after it is established that the person violated
 1-9     conditions of release, the board may require the releasee to remain
1-10     under custodial supervision in a county jail for a period of not
1-11     less than 60 days or more than 180 days.  A sheriff is required to
1-12     accept an inmate sanctioned under this subsection only if the
1-13     commissioners court of the county in which the sheriff serves and
1-14     the Texas Department of Criminal Justice have entered into a
1-15     contract providing for the housing of persons sanctioned under this
1-16     subsection.
1-17           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
