No. 3556 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 23, 2001; 1-3 April 24, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on Health 1-4 and Human Services; May 1, 2001, reported favorably by the 1-5 following vote: Yeas 9, Nays 0; May 1, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the life safety code standards for assisted living 1-9 facilities for supervision of medication and general welfare. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 247.030(b), Health and Safety Code, is 1-12 amended to read as follows: 1-13 (b) The board shall adopt minimum standards for an assisted 1-14 living facility classified under this section, including standards 1-15 imposing adequate requirements relating to medication supervision. 1-16 The board shall modify accessibility and life safety code standards 1-17 generally applicable to a facility licensed under this chapter as 1-18 necessary for a facility classified under this section to reflect 1-19 the level of services provided by the facility. The modified 1-20 standards must be specifically defined by the board and must 1-21 provide for two story buildings. Two story buildings must meet all 1-22 life safety code requirements in regards to protecting vertical 1-23 openings, as specified in the 1988 edition of the National Fire 1-24 Protection Association (NFPA) 101, Section 21-2.3.1. 1-25 SECTION 2.
