                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the jurisdiction of a county criminal court at law in
 1-3     Harris County and to the court giving preference to criminal law
 1-4     matters.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Sections 25.1033(a) and (b), Government Code, are
 1-7     amended to read as follows:
 1-8           (a)  A county criminal court at law in Harris County shall
 1-9     give preference to criminal law matters [has the criminal
1-10     jurisdiction provided by law for county courts and appellate
1-11     jurisdiction in appeals of criminal cases from justice courts and
1-12     municipal courts in the county, but has no other jurisdiction].
1-13           (b)  The judge of a county criminal court at law has the same
1-14     powers, rights, and privileges [as to criminal matters] as a judge
1-15     of a county court [judge having criminal jurisdiction].
1-16           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
