No. 38 77R3214 JXC-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Tejanos past and present have enriched the cultural 1-2 heritage of the State of Texas and contribute significantly to its 1-3 strength; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The Capitol grounds display statues, memorials, and 1-5 commemorations of people, ideals, and events that compose Texan 1-6 identity; these displays document the struggles and the successes 1-7 that Texans have experienced in the past and serve to inspire us as 1-8 we face the challenges of today; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A privately funded and designed statue, monument, or 1-10 exhibit on the Texas Capitol grounds paying tribute to Tejanos 1-11 would permanently acknowledge the influences and hopes of the 1-12 prominent and diverse community it portrays; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Chapter 443 of the Government Code authorizes the 1-14 State Preservation Board to preserve, maintain, and restore the 1-15 Capitol grounds, which include the Capitol, the General Land Office 1-16 Building, their contents, their grounds, and monuments and exhibits 1-17 on the grounds; now, therefore, be it 1-18 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-19 hereby direct the State Preservation Board to approve a design and 1-20 location and manage the installation of a statue that pays tribute 1-21 to the contributions of Tejanos to the State of Texas; and, be it 1-22 further 1-23 RESOLVED, That the General Services Commission or any other 1-24 state agency or Hispanic caucus assist the State Preservation Board 2-1 in the planning and completion of the statue, monument, or exhibit 2-2 as requested; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That the statue, monument, or exhibit be wholly 2-4 funded by private donations, which the board is authorized to 2-5 accept, and that the donors' names not be inscribed on the statue, 2-6 monument, or exhibit; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official 2-8 copy of this resolution to the executive director of the State 2-9 Preservation Board.
