                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Midland Christian High School Mustangs capped
 1-2     off an incredible season with a hard-fought 48-24 victory against
 1-3     Fort Worth Christian to capture the Texas Association of Private
 1-4     and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Class 4A state championship, and this
 1-5     outstanding team accomplishment is most deserving of special
 1-6     recognition; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Head coach Greg McClendon and the rest of his
 1-8     coaching staff adroitly guided the Mustangs to a 10-3 overall
 1-9     record this season and had them ably prepared for their
1-10     championship showdown against the Cardinals; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Midland Christian's prolific offensive attack
1-12     powered its way for 556 yards of total offense and 36 first downs;
1-13     the Mustangs exploded for 23 second-quarter points to break the
1-14     game open and secure the school's first-ever TAPPS 11-man football
1-15     title; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The stellar combination of running back Josh Gunter
1-17     and quarterback Jamie Beeghley proved too much for the resilient
1-18     Cardinals to overcome; Beeghley threw for 192 yards and two
1-19     touchdowns and also rushed for 112 yards, while Gunter rumbled for
1-20     188 yards and four touchdowns and also snared five passes for 85
1-21     yards; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Also rising to the occasion was the Mustangs'
1-23     defensive unit, which limited the Cardinals' high-octane offense to
1-24     nine first downs and a paltry 66 yards through the air; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Achieving such a lofty team goal required each of
 2-2     the squad's talented athletes to perform to the best of his
 2-3     abilities; this triumph is an apt reflection of the team's
 2-4     dedication and competitive spirit and is an appropriate culmination
 2-5     of many hours of hard work, commitment, and training; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, These gridiron standouts have distinguished
 2-7     themselves as formidable competitors, and as the Mustangs take
 2-8     pride and satisfaction in their state championship, it is indeed
 2-9     fitting to pay tribute to them; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-11     hereby honor the Midland Christian High School Mustangs on their
2-12     Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class 4A state
2-13     championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
2-14     success; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for head coach Greg McClendon and the Midland Christian
2-17     High School Mustangs as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-18     House of Representatives and Senate.
