No. 74 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 23, 2001; 1-3 April 24, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Administration; May 4, 2001, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 3, Nays 0; May 4, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, The city of West Tawakoni in Hunt County is a 1-8 vibrant community that is renowned as a center for tourism for its 1-9 proximity to Lake Tawakoni, which is home to some of the state's 1-10 best fishing; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Located approximately 50 miles east of Dallas, Lake 1-12 Tawakoni is one of the largest bodies of water found entirely 1-13 within the Lone Star State's borders, with its 200-mile-long 1-14 shoreline spread across portions of three counties; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Many enormous catfish, some weighing in excess of 1-16 100 pounds, have been reeled in at Lake Tawakoni, making it a prime 1-17 destination for fishermen, and the lake's unspoiled beauty, immense 1-18 size, and innate charm draw numerous other water and outdoor 1-19 enthusiasts; and 1-20 WHEREAS, With a population of approximately 930 people, the 1-21 city of West Tawakoni is preparing to hold an inaugural catfish 1-22 festival in April 2001, and organizers of the event are planning to 1-23 turn the festival into an annual tradition; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Catfish fishing has become synonymous with a trip to 1-25 West Tawakoni, and it is fitting that this community be formally 1-26 recognized for its most precious natural resource at this time; 1-27 now, therefore, be it 1-28 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-29 hereby declare West Tawakoni the Official Catfish Capital of Texas 1-30 and encourage all Texans to discover this charming community. 1-31 * * * * *
