HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On Wednesday, January 17, 2001, the Katy area 1-2 gathers to salute the Class 5A Division II football champions for 1-3 the 2000 season, the Katy Tigers; and 1-4 WHEREAS, On December 23, 2000, the Tigers defeated perennial 1-5 powerhouse Tyler John Tyler by a score of 35-20 in the state 1-6 championship game in the historic Astrodome; and 1-7 WHEREAS, With a record of 16 wins and no losses, Katy 1-8 finished the 2000 campaign as the only undefeated team in Class 5A; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Ranked the number six high school team in the 1-11 country by USA Today, the Tigers have now secured their second 1-12 state championship in the past four years--the other having come in 1-13 1997; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In addition to its competitive excellence, Katy High 1-15 School has also been named a National Blue Ribbon School of 1-16 Excellence and maintains a "Recognized" rating from the Texas 1-17 Education Agency; now, therefore, be it 1-18 RESOLVED by the House of Representatives, the Senate 1-19 concurring, That the members of the 77th Texas Legislature honor 1-20 and congratulate the championship efforts of the year 2000 Katy 1-21 Tigers, whose individual and team accomplishments cannot soon be 1-22 forgotten; and, be it further 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Katy Independent School District also be 1-24 honored for pursuing a foundation of academic achievement which 2-1 will enrich students' lives far beyond the reach of nonacademic 2-2 pursuits; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 presented to the Katy Tigers as a token of our esteem on this day.
