HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Ennis High School Lions defeated the West
 1-2     Orange-Stark High School Mustangs 38-24 to win the 2000 UIL Class
 1-3     4A Division II state football championship, and this outstanding
 1-4     team accomplishment is worthy of special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Head coach Sam Harrell adroitly guided the Lions to
 1-6     a 14-2 overall record this season and had the team ably prepared
 1-7     for their title showdown against the Mustangs; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, In the championship game, Ennis's prolific offensive
 1-9     attack exploded for 20 first downs and had more than 300 yards of
1-10     total offense; also rising to the occasion was the Lions' stingy
1-11     defense, which did not allow West Orange-Stark to score a point in
1-12     the first half and limited the Mustangs to a total of 24 rushing
1-13     yards; and
1-14           WHEREAS, After completing a stellar regular season, the Lions
1-15     marched to the championship in impressive fashion, outscoring their
1-16     six postseason opponents by a combined score of 252-76; and
1-17           WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible
1-18     without the contributions of all the talented team members,
1-19     including Dontay Echols, James Harris, Marlon Jones, Broderic
1-20     Jones, Zac Harrell, Tate Wallis, Rodney Birdow, Vincent Marshall,
1-21     Jeremy Butler, Todd Jackson, Graham Harrell, Josh Cepak, Chris

2-27           WHEREAS, These gridiron standouts have distinguished
 3-1     themselves as formidable competitors, and as the Lions take pride
 3-2     and satisfaction in their state championship, it is indeed fitting
 3-3     to pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore, be it
 3-4           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
 3-5     hereby congratulate the 2000 Ennis High School football team on
 3-6     winning the UIL Class 4A Division II state title and extend to its
 3-7     team members, coaches, and supporters sincere best wishes for
 3-8     continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further
 3-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-10     prepared for the Ennis High School football team as an expression
3-11     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
