No. 82 77R4051 MJS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Ennis High School Lions defeated the West 1-2 Orange-Stark High School Mustangs 38-24 to win the 2000 UIL Class 1-3 4A Division II state football championship, and this outstanding 1-4 team accomplishment is worthy of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Head coach Sam Harrell adroitly guided the Lions to 1-6 a 14-2 overall record this season and had the team ably prepared 1-7 for their title showdown against the Mustangs; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In the championship game, Ennis's prolific offensive 1-9 attack exploded for 20 first downs and had more than 300 yards of 1-10 total offense; also rising to the occasion was the Lions' stingy 1-11 defense, which did not allow West Orange-Stark to score a point in 1-12 the first half and limited the Mustangs to a total of 24 rushing 1-13 yards; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After completing a stellar regular season, the Lions 1-15 marched to the championship in impressive fashion, outscoring their 1-16 six postseason opponents by a combined score of 252-76; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible 1-18 without the contributions of all the talented team members, 1-19 including Dontay Echols, James Harris, Marlon Jones, Broderic 1-20 Jones, Zac Harrell, Tate Wallis, Rodney Birdow, Vincent Marshall, 1-21 Jeremy Butler, Todd Jackson, Graham Harrell, Josh Cepak, Chris 1-22 Morris, Trey Bates, Lamar Dickerson, Denard Cox, Craig Boggan, Alan 1-23 Lotspeich, Alberto Martinez, Cody Bolton, Cory White, Darrin 1-24 Robinson, Frank Gutierrez, Dwight Coleman, Rudy Dowell, Ben Joslin, 2-1 Aaron Mireles, Jeremiah Rolen, Darrell Patak, Clint Cooper, Chris 2-2 Munn, James Lewis, Josh Ludwig, Chris Copeland, Michael Medina, 2-3 Josh Munn, Cole Monreal, Rusty Allen, Ronnie Cromwell, Greg Melton, 2-4 Michael Freeman, Tyrone McDaniel, Chris Stroud, Matt Newman, Jeff 2-5 Holubar, Chris Woods, Jason Orr, Eric Tijerina, Brad Gunn, Brian 2-6 Lewis, Roy Jefferies, Adam Colunga, Jonathan Kadlubar, Bryan King, 2-7 Jonathan Cromwell, Steven Cedillo, Joseph Martinez, Brant 2-8 Southwell, Eric Chmelar, Chris Chandler, Aaron Cornwall, Adam 2-9 Prachyl, Derek Haskovec, Brad Zhanel, Albert Pereypa, Brian Barto, 2-10 Cody Brown, Greg Coile, Anthony Jenkins, Joey Martinez, Justin 2-11 Dickerson, and Gary Roberts; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The team also received invaluable support from 2-13 assistant coaches Wayne Walker, Steve Marrow, Paul Willingham, Kris 2-14 Boyd, Andy Cellars, Kevin Kalinec, Bill Anderson, Vance Barton, 2-15 Charlie Vineyard, Alex Rendon, Carlyle Locke, Tonny Wallis, Keith 2-16 Cook, and James Childers; trainer Eric Rider; student trainers 2-17 Brooke Gunn, Rufus Manning, Casey Cikanek, Julio Garcia, Patrick 2-18 Mach, Kim Crow, Brittany Spaniel, Junior Orundo, Ben Rejcek; video 2-19 technicians Larry Criner and Cathy Criner; statistician Lawrence 2-20 Kucera; athletic director Bill Cox; principal John Doslich; 2-21 superintendent Mike Harper; cheerleading sponsors Wendi Spencer and 2-22 Mari Hilger; varsity cheerleaders Stephanie Jones, Katie Kowalsky, 2-23 Taren Collard, Bridgette Behne, Holly Jansen, Amy Brazier, Kyle 2-24 Erwin, Kari Hejny, Haley Henning, Brandi Lopez, Carrie Sullivan, 2-25 Katherine Thomas, and Alisha Swearengin; and mascots Christen 2-26 Swearengin and Leila Knight; and 2-27 WHEREAS, These gridiron standouts have distinguished 3-1 themselves as formidable competitors, and as the Lions take pride 3-2 and satisfaction in their state championship, it is indeed fitting 3-3 to pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore, be it 3-4 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 3-5 hereby congratulate the 2000 Ennis High School football team on 3-6 winning the UIL Class 4A Division II state title and extend to its 3-7 team members, coaches, and supporters sincere best wishes for 3-8 continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further 3-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-10 prepared for the Ennis High School football team as an expression 3-11 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
