HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Patricio Martinez Garcia, Governor of 1-2 Chihuahua, recently sustained serious injury, and the members of 1-3 the Texas Legislature offer their support during his recovery; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Governor Martinez was wounded on January 17, 2001, 1-5 while departing his office, but fortunately his injuries were not 1-6 considered to be life-threatening; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Elected to the governorship of Chihuahua in 1998, he 1-8 has a long history of public service that includes serving with 1-9 distinction as the mayor of Chihuahua City and as a congressman; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, Governor Martinez has also consistently worked to 1-12 promote tourism, agriculture, commerce, and other area industries 1-13 and is a former president of the Chihuahua Chamber of Commerce; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Throughout his highly productive career, Governor 1-15 Martinez has devoted his time and energy to creating a brighter 1-16 future for his fellow citizens, and it is appropriate that he 1-17 receive support and encouragement during his convalescence; now, 1-18 therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-20 hereby extend to Governor Patricio Martinez Garcia sincere best 1-21 wishes for a rapid recovery; and, be it further RESOLVED, 1-22 That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Governor 1-23 Martinez as an expression of goodwill from the Texas House of 1-24 Representatives and Senate.
