HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 6, 2001, many proud residents from 1-2 Chambers County will gather in Austin to celebrate Chambers County 1-3 Day at the State Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Formed out of Liberty County and a parcel of 1-5 Jefferson County in 1858, Chambers County comprises 616 square 1-6 miles of level terrain and is divided by the Trinity River; and 1-7 WHEREAS, In the early 1900s, the county reaped the benefits 1-8 of its rice and soybean crops, which helped the area prosper; 1-9 throughout the years, Chambers County has undergone many changes 1-10 and now relies on a multifaceted economy that revolves around 1-11 petroleum, chemicals, steel plants, agriculture, various 1-12 manufacturing, fish processing, and tourism; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Recognized by the state legislature as the Alligator 1-14 Capital of Texas in 1989, Anahuac serves as the county seat and 1-15 holds an annual Texas Gatorfest at historic Fort Anahuac Park; in 1-16 addition, residents and visitors can enjoy partaking in wildlife 1-17 observation, birding, photography, waterfowl hunting, fishing, and 1-18 crabbing at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Other towns in this charming county include Winnie, 1-20 Beach City, Cove, Hankamer, Monroe City, Mont Belvieu, Old 1-21 River-Winfree, Stowell, Wallisville, Double Bayou, Oak Island, and 1-22 Smith Point; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The county takes great pride in its colorful history 1-24 and celebrates its rich heritage with traditional events such as 2-1 Mont Belvieu's Pioneer Days and the Texas Rice Festival; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Located less than 20 miles east of Houston, Chambers 2-3 County provides its citizens with a splendid combination of 2-4 small-town virtues and a taste of big-city life; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Chambers County continues to be one of the Lone Star 2-6 State's greatest assets and an outstanding place in which to live, 2-7 work, and raise a family, and it is most appropriate to pay tribute 2-8 to Chambers County at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-10 hereby recognize February 6, 2001, as Chambers County Day at the 2-11 State Capitol and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes for 2-12 success and happiness in future endeavors; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for the Chambers County delegation as an expression of 2-15 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
