HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Warwick H. Jenkins III of Waxahachie
1-2 on January 23, 2001, at the age of 79, has brought a great loss to
1-3 the many friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born on December 4, 1921, in Waco, to Warwick H.
1-5 Jenkins, Jr., and Josephine Jarrell Jenkins, he served his country
1-6 with valor as a member of the United States Army in the Battle of
1-7 the Bulge during World War II and attained the rank of master
1-8 sergeant; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Jenkins graduated from Baylor University and
1-10 Baylor Law School, and in 1948 he moved to Waxahachie, where he
1-11 practiced law for 53 years and served as a mentor to myriad young
1-12 attorneys; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Highly respected for his extensive knowledge of
1-14 municipal law, Mr. Jenkins served as city attorney of a number of
1-15 North Central Texas cities, and for more than 47 years he was the
1-16 attorney for the Ellis County Water District; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This generous citizen was involved with many worthy
1-18 organizations, including the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, the
1-19 First Baptist Church, and the Waxahachie Lions Club, which he
1-20 served as president; he was a 32nd degree Mason, held the post of
1-21 Ellis County Democratic Party chairman, and was a former member of
1-22 the State Democratic Executive Committee; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
1-24 Mr. Jenkins will long miss his presence, and he will surely be
2-1 remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to
2-2 come; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-4 hereby pay tribute to the life of Warwick H. Jenkins III and extend
2-5 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children and
2-6 their spouses, James R. Jenkins and his wife, Pam, Dr. John C.
2-7 Jenkins and his wife, Patty, Laura Jenkins, and Clay Lewis Jenkins;
2-8 to his grandchildren, Cassidy, Emily, Graham, Mary, Speight,
2-9 Allison, Brett, and Arabella Jenkins; to his great-grandchild,
2-10 Dalton Jenkins; to his former wife, Jo Ann Jenkins, and to the many
2-11 other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-14 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
2-15 memory of Warwick H. Jenkins III.
