By Chisum H.C.R. No. 112 77R5599 MJS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Lieutenant Colonel George R. "Bob" 1-2 Scott of Waco on July 20, 2000, at the age of 80, brought a 1-3 profound loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed 1-4 gentleman; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born on January 26, 1920, he graduated from Waco 1-6 High School and attended Baylor University, The University of 1-7 Texas, and several other highly respected institutions of higher 1-8 learning; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This intrepid gentleman served with distinction for 1-10 26 years in the United States Army and participated in seven beach 1-11 landings in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II, and 1-12 his valor and meritorious service earned him the Combat Infantry 1-13 Badge, Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf 1-14 Cluster; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A native of Waco, Colonel Scott was involved in a 1-16 host of civic-oriented organizations and became a master Mason in 1-17 J. H. Gurley Lodge No. 337 in 1951; moreover, he was elected grand 1-18 master of masonry of Texas in 1985 and served as a member of the 1-19 board of directors of the Texas Masonic Home and School, the Texas 1-20 Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas and the Shrine Burn 1-21 Center in Galveston, as well as general secretary of the Waco 1-22 Scottish Rite Bodies and personal representative and chairman of 1-23 the Advisory Committee of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Texas; and 1-24 WHEREAS, In addition, Colonel Scott was active in the 2-1 National Sojourners, Inc., and was accorded the National 2-2 Sojourner's Medal in 1998; other venerable fraternal organizations 2-3 that Colonel Scott was affiliated with included the York Rite, 2-4 Karem Temple Shrine, Royal Order of Scotland, Scottish Rite 2-5 Research Society, and the Red Cross of Constantine; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Whether bringing to fruition many good works in the 2-7 community or protecting our nation's freedoms and liberties, 2-8 Colonel Scott greatly contributed to his community, state, and 2-9 nation, and his devotion to duty and selfless dedication to his 2-10 fellow Texans will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-12 hereby pay tribute to the life of Lieutenant Colonel George R. 2-13 "Bob" Scott and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his 2-14 family: to his wife of 54 years, Rochelle M. Scott; to his 2-15 children, Debra Kelinske and George Robert "Bob" Scott III; to his 2-16 grandchildren, Daniel L. Kelinske, Joshua R. Kelinske, and Candice 2-17 M. Kelinske; to his sisters, Mary Edwards and Ruth Bate; to his 2-18 brother, James Scott; and to his numerous other relatives and 2-19 friends; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-23 memory of Lieutenant Colonel George R. "Bob" Scott.
