HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The impressive accomplishments of Texas Christian
 1-2     University (TCU) student and All-American football player LaDainian
 1-3     Tomlinson are most deserving of special legislative recognition;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Named the winner of the 2000 Doak Walker Award,
 1-6     Mr. Tomlinson led the nation in rushing during his senior year at
 1-7     TCU; scoring 22 touchdowns, his 2,158 yard rushing total was the
 1-8     most yards ever gained by a Texas running back; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born on June 23, 1979, Mr. Tomlinson began his
1-10     impressive football career at Waco University High School, where he
1-11     accounted for an astounding 2,554 yards and 39 touchdowns during
1-12     his senior season; he went on to  enjoy tremendous success on the
1-13     gridiron throughout his four-year career at TCU, shattering
1-14     numerous school and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) records and
1-15     leading the Horned Frogs to three consecutive bowl appearances; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The Doak Walker Award is given not only for athletic
1-17     accomplishments but also in recognition of a player's achievements
1-18     in the classroom and the community; Mr. Tomlinson is a radio,
1-19     television, and film major and has volunteered at the Boys and
1-20     Girls Clubs of Fort Worth and the TCU Community Outreach Program;
1-21     he also visited area elementary schools and was featured on
1-22     billboards as part of the "Teachers are the Real Heroes" campaign
1-23     and participated in a motivational video for a "Score a Goal in the
1-24     Classroom" program that was shown to area elementary school
 2-1     students; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Throughout his time in Fort Worth, Mr. Tomlinson
 2-3     established himself as a leader and a role model, not only for his
 2-4     athletic exploits but also for his invaluable community service and
 2-5     his indomitable character, and it is indeed fitting to pay tribute
 2-6     to this truly gifted and talented young man at this time; now,
 2-7     therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-9     hereby congratulate Texas Christian University student and football
2-10     player LaDainian Tomlinson on being accorded the 2000 Doak Walker
2-11     Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and good
2-12     fortune in his future endeavors; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mr. Tomlinson as a token of high regard by the Texas
2-15     House of Representatives and Senate.
