No. 129 77R5594 WMS-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The late Bobby Fuller of El Paso remains a 1-2 significant figure in the history of Texas music, and his notable 1-3 accomplishments have inspired countless young musicians and 1-4 enriched the lives of numerous fans across the state and nation; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born on October 22, 1943, in Goose Creek, he moved 1-7 with his family to El Paso at the age of 14 and soon began his 1-8 pursuit of a career in rock-and-roll; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He played drums with The Counts at shopping center 1-10 parking lots in the El Paso area and by 1962 had formed the Bobby 1-11 Fuller Four with Jim Reese, Dewayne Quirico, and his brother, Randy 1-12 Fuller; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Aided by his parents, Bobby Fuller overcame all 1-14 obstacles to forge ahead with his music, building a recording 1-15 studio, establishing his own record label, Exeter, and opening the 1-16 Teen Rendezvous Club, a popular El Paso hot spot; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Bobby Fuller Four enjoyed its first taste of 1-18 success with the release of "Let Her Dance," but when "I Fought the 1-19 Law" burst onto the music scene, reaching number nine on the 1-20 Billboard charts on February 12, 1966, the group was catapulted 1-21 into the national limelight; pure rock-and-roll, the fierce 1-22 independence of "I Fought the Law" was a reflection of Bobby 1-23 Fuller's own determination and has allowed the song to endure as 1-24 one of the classics of its genre; and 2-1 WHEREAS, After two successful tours and a film debut, Bobby 2-2 Fuller seemed poised for stardom, but his life was tragically cut 2-3 short on July 18, 1966; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Despite the brief duration of his career, Bobby 2-5 Fuller turned his dreams into a reality and has taken his place in 2-6 the Lone Star State's pantheon of legendary musicians; now, 2-7 therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-9 hereby pay tribute to the artistic legacy of Bobby Fuller in the 2-10 hope that his achievements will inspire Texans of all ages in their 2-11 musical endeavors.
