By Dunnam H.C.R. No. 182 77R8253 JKB-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of J. B. Vandiver, Sr., of Moody on July 1-2 6, 2000, at the age of 74, brought a great loss to the family and 1-3 many friends of this esteemed individual; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Vandiver was born in Oglesby on 1-5 November 25, 1925, and grew up in Coryell County; this admirable 1-6 gentleman was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving his 1-7 country as a member of the United States Navy in the South Pacific; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, He married the former Lavenia Lasly on August 28, 1-10 1946, and together they shared many wonderful memories; through the 1-11 years, their cherished family grew to include three children, 1-12 Deitra, Karen, and Bert, as well as six grandchildren and two 1-13 great-grandchildren; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Vandiver was a highly respected member of the 1-15 Moody community and served as justice of the peace for McLennan 1-16 County Precinct 6 for 36 years; he and his wife owned and operated 1-17 Vandiver Gin and Grain, Moody Furniture, and Moody Lumber and 1-18 farmed several thousand acres of land; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Affectionately called Bert, Mr. Vandiver gave 1-20 generously of his time and talents to a number of worthwhile 1-21 initiatives; he helped to establish both the Young Farmer's 1-22 Association in Moody and the Moody Lions Club and was a past master 1-23 of the Moody Lodge 568; in addition, he was a member of the Board 1-24 of Directors of the First National Bank of McGregor and a member of 2-1 First Baptist Church of Moody; and 2-2 WHEREAS, J. B. Vandiver was a man of integrity and 2-3 compassion, and although he is missed by the many individuals with 2-4 whom he shared his life, his spirit continues to live on in the 2-5 hearts and minds of all who were privileged to know him; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-8 hereby pay tribute to the life of J. B. "Bert" Vandiver, Sr., and 2-9 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-10 Lavenia; to his daughters and their families, Deitra and Bennie 2-11 Hargrove and Karen Vandiver; to his son and his wife, Bert 2-12 Vandiver, Jr., and Jeanette Vandiver; to his brother, Graham 2-13 Vandiver; to his grandchildren, Chris Hargrove, Jamie Hargrove, 2-14 Elaine Berrier, Matt Hargrove, Ashley Vandiver, and Bert Vandiver 2-15 III; to his great-grandchildren, Wesley Hargrove and Andrew 2-16 Hargrove; and to the other relatives and many friends of this 2-17 beloved gentleman; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in 2-21 memory of J. B. Vandiver.
