No. 217 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 7, 2001; 1-3 May 7, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on Veteran 1-4 Affairs and Military Installations; May 10, 2001, reported 1-5 favorably by the following vote: Yeas 4, Nays 0; May 10, 2001, 1-6 sent to printer.) 1-7 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-8 WHEREAS, Due to their service in the United States Armed 1-9 Forces, many native Texans must give birth to their children while 1-10 serving in other states or in foreign lands, and it is thus 1-11 appropriate that the Texas House of Representatives and Senate 1-12 recognize these children as honorary Texans; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Texans take great pride in their state and its 1-14 storied history, and the lineage of many of these Lone Star State 1-15 natives can be traced back generations; military service is also a 1-16 longstanding tradition among Texans, and their dedication, courage, 1-17 and patriotism are renowned the world over; and 1-18 WHEREAS, To ensure that these substantial Texas roots 1-19 continue to grow deep and preserve familial legacies that began 1-20 centuries ago, it is important to recognize the children of Texan 1-21 servicemen and servicewomen with a designation that connects them 1-22 with their distinguished forebears; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-24 hereby acknowledge all children of native Texans serving in the 1-25 United States Armed Forces who are born outside the Lone Star State 1-26 as honorary Texans and extend to them the privileges and 1-27 perquisites accorded those individuals native to Texas. 1-28 * * * * *
