No. 248 77R7320 JKB-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Over the last three decades, Meals on Wheels of 1-2 Amarillo has made an immeasurable contribution to its community, 1-3 and it is most deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Established in September 1971, the Amarillo program 1-5 began as the cooperative effort of 12 local churches and St. 1-6 Anthony's Hospital, and its first delivery provided meals to 13 1-7 homebound individuals; Northwest Texas Hospital joined the program 1-8 in 1983, and the organization has expanded to now include more than 1-9 500 volunteers who help to feed 300 men and women every day; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Amarillo's Meals on Wheels program is completely 1-11 supported by community donations; meals are purchased from 1-12 participating hospital kitchens, enabling the program to fulfill 1-13 specific dietary needs, and are delivered to those unable to 1-14 prepare a meal for themselves; and 1-15 WHEREAS, These recipients receive much more than a nutritious 1-16 meal when a Meals on Wheels volunteer comes to their door; the 1-17 sharing of local news, care, and friendship often accompany the 1-18 entree; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Volunteers from corporations, civic groups, 1-20 churches, schools, and throughout the community have delivered more 1-21 than one million meals to the homebound of Amarillo since the 1-22 organization was established; and through their notable efforts, 1-23 they help people remain in their own homes where they are often 1-24 healthier and happier; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-2 hereby commend all those associated with Meals on Wheels of 2-3 Amarillo for their laudable concern for the well-being of others; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Meals on Wheels of Amarillo as an expression of high 2-7 regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
