No. 255 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 7, 2001; 1-3 May 7, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Administration; May 11, 2001, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 3, Nays 0; May 11, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, The family and friends of Tillman Bascome 1-8 McHenry, Sr., of Deer Park were greatly saddened by the passing of 1-9 this esteemed Texan on December 15, 2000, at the age of 73; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Born on November 5, 1927, Mr. McHenry was employed 1-11 by the City of Pasadena until he retired in 1990; three years later 1-12 he began working in the district office of State Representative 1-13 Robert E. Talton, and he remained a dedicated and beloved employee 1-14 there until the time of his death; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This honorable gentleman served his country during 1-16 World War II in the Coast Guard Merchant Marines and performed an 1-17 additional nine years of service with the National Guard; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Deer Park, Mr. McHenry was 1-19 deeply involved in his community, working on the board of Deer Park 1-20 Parks & Recreation Department for 26 years and on the board of the 1-21 Deer Park Community for 31 years; moreover, he was a founding 1-22 member of the Deer Park Advisory Council and past president of the 1-23 Maxwell Senior Citizens of Deer Park; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Mr. McHenry also participated in area softball 1-25 organizations, dedicating his time and energy as four-term 1-26 president of the Houston Amateur Softball Association; he was 1-27 inducted into the National Amateur Softball Association Hall of 1-28 Fame as well as the Pasadena and Houston Chapter of the ASA Hall of 1-29 Fame; and 1-30 WHEREAS, Respected and admired by many, Mr. McHenry was a 1-31 devoted husband and loving father whose spirit will undoubtedly 1-32 live on in the hearts of the countless people whose lives he 1-33 touched; now, therefore, be it 1-34 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-35 hereby pay tribute to the life of Tillman Bascome McHenry, Sr., 1-36 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 1-37 wife, Barbara Joan McHenry; to his children, Brenda Scafidi, 1-38 Robert McHenry and wife Joette, daughter-in-law, Carolyn McHenry, 1-39 Tammy Endres and husband John, Tillman B. McHenry, Jr., and 1-40 Terry McHenry and wife Kim; to his sister, Barbara Brewer; and to 1-41 his grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and all his other relatives 1-42 and many friends; and, be it further 1-43 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 1-44 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 1-45 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory 1-46 of Tillman Bascome McHenry, Sr. 1-47 * * * * *
