                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The retirement of Anna Maria Saldana brought to a
 1-2     close the distinguished career of a remarkable woman, and for her
 1-3     35 years of devoted service to The University of Texas School of
 1-4     Law she is indeed worthy of special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Ms. Saldana began her lengthy career with the School
 1-6     of Law in 1964, working for Dean Byron Fullerton for a number of
 1-7     years; she also served as the secretary of the Scholarships
 1-8     Committee, a position in which she was able to assist hundreds of
 1-9     students in need of financial assistance; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The school created a financial aid office in 1991,
1-11     and Ms. Saldana became the sole counselor for the 1,100 students
1-12     receiving financial aid; through the years she would act as the
1-13     counselor of more than 6,000 students, and under her direction the
1-14     office would grow to include three counselors responsible for
1-15     processing all student grants, loans, and scholarships; and
1-16           WHEREAS, During her exemplary tenure, Ms. Saldana was
1-17     recognized by almost every student organization, and she was named
1-18     the honoree for Law Week by the student body; she was also awarded
1-19     a lifetime honorary membership in both the Chicano Hispanic Law
1-20     Students Association and the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In commemoration of Ms. Saldana's hard work and
1-22     benevolence in behalf of the students of The University of Texas
1-23     School of Law, an Endowed Presidential Scholarship has been created
1-24     in her name, ensuring that her legacy of compassion and generosity
 2-1     will endure for many years to come; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Anna Maria Saldana has made an immeasurable
 2-3     difference in the lives of generations of law students, and
 2-4     although her knowledge and experience have been sorely missed, her
 2-5     many years of exceptional service will not soon be forgotten; now,
 2-6     therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-8     hereby commend Anna Maria Saldana for her 35 years of dedication to
 2-9     The University of Texas School of Law and extend to her sincere
2-10     best wishes for an enjoyable retirement; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Ms. Saldana as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
