 1-6                         HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-7           WHEREAS, The retirement of Anna Maria Saldana brought to a
 1-8     close the distinguished career of a remarkable woman, and for her
 1-9     35 years of devoted service to The University of Texas School of
1-10     Law she is indeed worthy of special recognition; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Ms. Saldana began her lengthy career with the School
1-12     of Law in 1964, working for Dean Byron Fullerton for a number of
1-13     years; she also served as the secretary of the Scholarships
1-14     Committee, a position in which she was able to assist hundreds of
1-15     students in need of financial assistance; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The school created a financial aid office in 1991,
1-17     and Ms. Saldana became the sole counselor for the 1,100 students
1-18     receiving financial aid; through the years she would act as the
1-19     counselor of more than 6,000 students, and under her direction the
1-20     office would grow to include three counselors responsible for
1-21     processing all student grants, loans, and scholarships; and
1-22           WHEREAS, During her exemplary tenure, Ms. Saldana was
1-23     recognized by almost every student organization, and she was named
1-24     the honoree for Law Week by the student body; she was also awarded
1-25     a lifetime honorary membership in both the Chicano Hispanic Law
1-26     Students Association and the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society; and
1-27           WHEREAS, In commemoration of Ms. Saldana's hard work and
1-28     benevolence in behalf of the students of The University of Texas
1-29     School of Law, an Endowed Presidential Scholarship has been created
1-30     in her name, ensuring that her legacy of compassion and generosity
1-31     will endure for many years to come; and
1-32           WHEREAS, Anna Maria Saldana has made an immeasurable
1-33     difference in the lives of generations of law students, and
1-34     although her knowledge and experience have been sorely missed, her
1-35     many years of exceptional service will not soon be forgotten; now,
1-36     therefore, be it
1-37           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
1-38     hereby commend Anna Maria Saldana for her 35 years of dedication to
1-39     The University of Texas School of Law and extend to her sincere
1-40     best wishes for an enjoyable retirement; and, be it further
1-41           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-42     prepared for Ms. Saldana as an expression of high regard by the
1-43     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
