HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Dee K. Carter of Midland was elected to serve as
 1-2     president of the Texas Association of Insurance and Financial
 1-3     Advisors (TAIFA) in the year 2000, and his selection is indicative
 1-4     of the high esteem in which he is held by his professional
 1-5     colleagues; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, With more than 5,000 members, TAIFA promotes high
 1-7     ethical standards for life and health insurance agents, fosters a
 1-8     healthy business climate, and strives to protect the interests of
 1-9     both insurance consumers and agents, and Mr. Carter is a fitting
1-10     choice to lead this dynamic organization given his wealth of
1-11     experience and exemplary record of service to the profession; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A native of Abilene, Mr. Carter holds bachelor's and
1-13     master's degrees from Abilene Christian University and served as
1-14     assistant president of Christian College of the Southwest in Dallas
1-15     before embarking on a career in the insurance industry in 1971; and
1-16           WHEREAS, His noteworthy career has included an outstanding
1-17     25-year tenure with Lincoln National Life in Midland and leadership
1-18     positions benefiting the industry as TAIFA's secretary-treasurer
1-19     and Region 6 director, and as president of both the Midland Area
1-20     and Odessa life underwriters associations; and
1-21           WHEREAS, A district manager for Provident Mutual since
1-22     January 2001, Mr. Carter has repeatedly won national industry
1-23     awards and is a respected member of the Texas Leaders Round Table;
1-24     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, In addition, he is a community leader in Midland who
 2-2     gives generously of his time and talents to numerous local
 2-3     organizations; a west Texas basketball official for nearly three
 2-4     decades, he is a member of the Northeast YMCA Board of Directors,
 2-5     the Midland Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee, the Midland
 2-6     Association for Retarded Citizens Board of Directors, and Fairmont
 2-7     Church of Christ; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, This fine man is widely known for his commitment to
 2-9     be of service to others, and his tenure as president of TAIFA will
2-10     undoubtedly be an exciting and eventful period in the
2-11     organization's rich history; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-13     hereby congratulate Dee K. Carter on his election as president of
2-14     the Texas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and
2-15     commend him for his numerous professional and civic contributions;
2-16     and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18     prepared for Mr. Carter as an expression of high regard by the
2-19     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
