By Pitts H.C.R. No. 269 77R14024 MW-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the 77th Texas Legislature take great 1-2 pleasure in honoring the esteemed N. B. "Buck" Jordan, Jr., of 1-3 Waxahachie on his retirement as president of the Waxahachie Chamber 1-4 of Commerce; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Waxahachie, Mr. Jordan is no stranger to 1-6 community service; a former city councilor, he was appointed by 1-7 Governor Ann Richards and later reappointed by Governor George W. 1-8 Bush to act as commissioner of the Texas National Research 1-9 Laboratory; he also served as a United Way chairman, as chairman 1-10 for Mobile Meals, as Lions Club president, and as a member of the 1-11 board for Texas Chamber Executives; and 1-12 WHEREAS, In 1984, this respected Texan joined the Waxahachie 1-13 Chamber of Commerce as its executive director, and during his 1-14 17-year tenure, the organization's membership expanded threefold, 1-15 13 major industries invested $457 million in the area, creating 1-16 nearly 3,500 new jobs, and a new chamber facility was constructed; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan has earned numerous accolades throughout 1-19 the years, including the 1990 Outstanding Citizen of the Year award 1-20 from the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and the Distinguished 1-21 Service Award from the Texas Chamber Executives; earlier this year 1-22 he was accorded the Chamber Executive of the Year award at the 1-23 annual conference of the Texas Association of Business & Chambers 1-24 of Commerce; and 2-1 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate to pay tribute to 2-2 Mr. Jordan as he begins his well-deserved retirement and to 2-3 celebrate the legacy of success he leaves behind; now, therefore, 2-4 be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-6 hereby honor N. B. "Buck" Jordan, Jr., on the occasion of his 2-7 retirement from the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and extend to 2-8 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mr. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
