HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, On March 14, 2001, the residents of Cooper lost a
1-2 treasured neighbor and friend with the passing of J. C. Fisher,
1-3 Jr., and the life of this distinguished gentleman indeed merits
1-4 special legislative recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Fisher was born at Craig
1-6 Tranquil in Delta County on January 8, 1926; he was a 1944 graduate
1-7 of Cooper High School and a veteran of the United States Merchant
1-8 Marine; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher was an active member of the First United
1-10 Methodist Church in Cooper and served as chairman of the board, as
1-11 president of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and on several
1-12 committees; and
1-13 WHEREAS, A former Cooper city councilman, this noteworthy
1-14 Texan gave generously of his time and talents to numerous community
1-15 organizations over the years, including the Retail Merchants
1-16 Association, the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions
1-17 Club; he was also a member of the Red Henderson Post, American
1-18 Legion, and enjoyed golf, woodworking, oil painting, and gardening;
1-19 and
1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher was a notable community leader, and while
1-21 he is greatly missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds
1-22 of the many people with whom he shared his life; now, therefore, be
1-23 it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas pay
2-1 special tribute to the life of J. C. Fisher, Jr., and extend
2-2 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Zelda
2-3 Nance Fisher; to his son, Stephen Nance Fisher; to his three
2-4 grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
2-5 it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-8 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory
2-9 of J. C. Fisher, Jr.
