HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Students from La Porte Independent School District 1-2 who are district winners in the National History Day competition 1-3 are visiting the State Capitol on Friday, May 11; and 1-4 WHEREAS, National History Day is a highly regarded and 1-5 academically challenging year-long program that engages students in 1-6 grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of 1-7 historical topics; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This educational competition fosters academic 1-9 achievement and intellectual growth and culminates in a national 1-10 contest every June; this year's theme is "Frontiers in History: 1-11 People, Places, and Ideas"; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The La Porte High School district winners are Vic 1-13 Jackson, Frank Permenter, Charity Kester, and Kristen Young, who 1-14 won for senior group documentary; Jeremy Dozier, Ashley Walker, 1-15 and Courtney Cassidy for senior group performance; and Katie Elliot 1-16 for individual performance; from Lomax Junior High, Niki Major won 1-17 for individual documentary; and 1-18 WHEREAS, These exceptional young people will go on to compete 1-19 at the 21st Annual Texas History Day statewide contest, where they 1-20 will undoubtedly make their parents and teachers very proud of all 1-21 their hard work and accomplishments; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-23 hereby recognize the National History Day district winners from La 1-24 Porte Independent School District and extend to them best wishes 2-1 for success in their upcoming contest.
